K9 catches drunk driver with felony warrant after police chase in Van Buren County

Thanks to the help of a K9, a Van Buren County man is in custody Tuesday after drunkenly leading police on a chase through Antwerp Township.

Van Buren County Sheriff Daniel Abbott reports that at about 2:15 a.m. Tuesday, deputies attempted to initiate a traffic stop for suspected drunk driving on Red Arrow Highway near Mattawan when the driver, 37-year-old Christopher Miller, fled in his vehicle.

After reaching speeds of over 75 MPH, the vehicle came to to a stop more than 6 miles later north of the Paw Paw River near. Miller fled on foot into the woods, and was eventually tracked down by  Van Buren County K9 Kuno.

The driver was treated at a local hospital for injuries sustained during the chase and apprehension, and was lodged for flee and elude, open intoxication, drunk driving and warrants including failure to appear for sentencing for felon with a gun charges.

Van Buren County Road Patrol Division and the Michigan State Police also assisted.
