The home rehabilitation program in Benton Harbor has been making progress. Speaking to city commissioners Monday, Community and Economic Development Director Alex Little said most of the COVID funds allocated by the city for home rehabs has been spent.

“Our housing rehab program is moving along well,” Little said. “We’ve gotten everything coordinated with the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services on the lead paint business.”

Little said of $117,000 in COVID money dedicated to rehab, all but $4,000 has been spent. He also noted demolitions of blighted buildings will begin soon. The city this year set aside $300,000 for that project. Little said the demos experienced a slight delay, pretty much for the same reasons everything has experienced delays in the last couple of years.
