The American Red Cross and United Federal Credit Union teamed up this week for a blood drive in St. Joseph. UFCU says the event Tuesday at its headquarters in St. Joseph collected 29 pints of blood. The Red Cross says one pint of blood can save up to three lives. The Red Cross provides about 40% of the nation’s blood and blood components at hospitals. Blood donations have been down since the pandemic started, and the Red Cross says someone needs blood about every two seconds in the United States. United Federal Credit Union Senior Relationship Development Manager Joshua Pratt says the credit union is proud its employees stepped forward to help.
