 1869 Amos Tyler received the first patent for chewing gum. Tyler’s gum consisted of white rosin and olive oil.

1953 The three-year Korean War officially ended with the signing of an armistice between the U.S. and Korea. Both sides claimed victory.

1996 During the 1996 Olympics, right-wing extremist Eric Robert Rudolph set off a bomb at Centennial Olympic Park in Atlanta. Two people were killed and 111 were injured.

 

Music History:

1974 John Denver started a two week run at No.1 on the US singles chart with ‘Annie’s Song’, the singers second US No.1. The song was a tribute to his wife and was written in 10 minutes while he was on a ski lift.
