Congressman Fred Upton might not be running for reelection this year, but that doesn’t mean he’s just coasting until the end of his term. He tells us he still has several months to represent Michigan’s Sixth District in Washington, and he’s using them to get things done.
“It’s still a busy time, I’m not slowed down,” Upton said. “I’m back and forth to Michigan, I haven’t missed any votes. I still sign my mail. I’m still obviously seeing constituents. We’ve got the Michigan Corns Growers here now, and we had a bunch of agriculture lenders in a little bit earlier this afternoon. I’m very engaged in the committee. We marked up five or six bills today.”
A bill co-sponsored by Upton was just approved this week in the U.S. House. It creates a national program for Active Shooter alerts to be sent to the public, similar to Amber Alerts. Upton says he’ll start to think about what he’s going to do next year around the end of this year.
