Grand Rapids City Manager Mark Washington has fired police officer Christopher Schurr, effective June 10. Schurr is charged with second-degree murder for the shooting death of Patrick Lyoya on April 4, and Lyoya’s family attorney plans to file a civil lawsuit against the city and former officer. Chief Eric Winstrom recommended the officer be suspended without pay pending his firing. Schurr has pled not guilty.
