There will be some slight differences with parking in downtown St. Joseph this summer. At a Monday meeting, city commissioners approved a proposal from the Downtown Development Authority that would change some of the downtown parking spaces from having limits of two hours to having limits of 30 minutes. In all, there will now be 17 new 30-minute spaces. Mayor Laura Goos said the idea’s been discussed before.

“I think this is a pleasant surprise, considering we discussed it in 2021 and it was – not pun intended – put in the parking lot for now,” Goos said.

City Manager John Hodgson said the idea is for shoppers to have more places to park when they’re just running errands. City staff were directed to take the steps to prepare for the changes.
