Kent County Prosecutor Chris Becker will announce today if Grand Rapids Police Officer Christopher Schurr was justified when he shot and killed Patrick Lyoya in April. Becker will make the announcement at 3 p.m. at Michigan State Police Sixth District Headquarters in Walker. The family of Lyoya and hundreds of others in Grand Rapids want felony charges against the officer, who shot the man in the back of the head while on top of him after a traffic stop. The shooting death has resulted in several protests that ended Grand Rapids City Commission meetings early.
