Berrien County Commissioners Approve Strategic Plan

A new strategic plan has been formally approved by the Berrien County Board of Commissioners. The document lays out county priorities for resources and development for several years. County Administrator Brian Dissette tells WSJM News work started on it in January of 2021, but the document was greatly changed as millions of federal health and infrastructure money started coming in.

“We have roughly $30 million of ARPA funds that the county has partially received and then will receive over the next year,” Dissette said. “Out of that $30 million, the strategic plan recommends that the county invest $6 million of the $30 million into the high speed internet services that are needed across Berrien County.”

Dissette says the strategic plan sets aside about $6 million for broadband expansion. It sets aside $23 million to $27 million for other county projects. The county commission approved the strategic plan Thursday.
