With gas prices reaching new highs in the state, Governor Gretchen Whitmer says she has met with Republican and Democratic leaders in Lansing. What did they come up with?

“Conversations are ongoing,” Whitmer said. “I am optimistic that we’re going to be able to find some common ground and be able to get people some relief at the pump. I know people are hurting. It’s been tough. I’ve offered a number of solutions. The Legislature has their own ideas. We’re trying to negotiate so we can get something done and  get people some help.”

Senate Republicans have approved a bill to suspend the state’s 6% sales tax and the 27 cent per gallon tax on gas until September. The governor has proposed rebate checks of $500.
