The Hartford Strawberry Festival is this weekend. The event’s Patty Schroeder tells WSJM News it’s been held each summer since 1986 to celebrate the area’s strawberry growers. It all kicks off Friday with food vendors, rides, and the Kiddie Parade at 6 p.m. Saturday starts with rides, food, music, and the Strawberry Parade at 1 p.m.

“We’re excited to bring back the bed races this year at 2:30 on Main Street, and we’re bringing back the pie eating contest at 3 o’clock at the pavilion at Ely Park,” Schroeder said. “The big entertainment this year starting at 5 p.m. is Miranda and the M80s and they’ll be playing all the way until 9 o’clock.”

Schroeder says the Strawberry Festival kicks off the summer festival season in southwest Michigan.

“My favorite part is just meeting all the people and seeing the excitement of the whole event.”

Sunday will include more rides, food, and music. Schroeder says organizers were concerned about the strawberry supply this year, but in the end they were able to get enough. You can find the schedule here.
