An investigation, or several, could be on the horizon, after the Michigan Bureau of Elections discovered that thousands of signatures turned in by several Republican for governor turned out to be fraudulent. Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel says her office has yet to receive a formal request for an investigation:

“There are going to be cases, and I can’t speak to which of those cases now, but there will be cases that will ultimately be referred to our department, and that we will likely be investigating at least some of those cases,” Nessel said. “I can’t predict how many right now.”

As many as five candidates are in jeopardy of not making the November ballot. That includes frontrunners James Craig and Perry Johnson. Michael Brown already dropped out of the race preemptively when he learned of the signature problem, saying he wants nothing to do with any questionable activity.
