Congressman Fred Upton says he was disappointed the draft decision on Roe vs. Wade was leaked out of the Supreme Court Tuesday. He tells WSJM News that’s a first.

“I don’t ever remember something like that happening before, and of course, as I understand it, it could well change,” Upton said. “Apparently, it’s a couple of months old. It was written back in February. So, who knows if it changed between now and then?”

So, what now?

“Michigan has a law that’s been on the books since the 30s that would ban abortion is virtually all cases – rape, incest, etc – so it really puts the onus on the state reps and state senators who are all running for election come fall.”

Upton didn’t have much to say about the decision itself. He says abortion will now be an issue of concern to state lawmakers, assuming the Supreme Court sticks with what its draft says when it releases its final decision. As of right now, Upton says neither political party has the 60 votes needed to either ban or protect abortion rights nationwide.
