An attempt to stop all new short-term rentals in South Haven has come up short. Councilman Joe Reeser made the motion at the end of Monday night’s meeting and had support from councilwomen Letitia Wilkins and Wendi Onuki, but the other four voted against it. Reeser says the trend has become to modify homes and make them larger, and says the city has two problems. He says there are too many short-term rentals right now. Mayor Scott Smith voted against it, saying there was no notice and the city has agreed to a process that the resolution “flies in the face of.”
