A drug takeback day is planned for this month by Spectrum Health Lakeland. Manager of quality improvement Michelle Brow tells WSJM News everyone will be welcome to dispose of unused and unwanted prescription drugs between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. near entrance B at the Center for Outpatient Services on Hollywood Road in St. Joseph on April 30.

“We do accept prescription meds that are liquids, like cough medicines, patches, inhalers, any old pet medications, we will also accept those,” Brow said. “You can bring them in the containers they were given to you in, or you can put them in a Ziploc bag and we’ll dispose of them that way.”

Brow says by dropping old medications off, police can destroy them safely. The drug drop off day is anonymous. During the last National Prescription Drug Take Back Day in October of last year, nearly 5,000 sites across the country collected more than 744,000 pounds of medications and medical supplies for disposal. Berrien County has a list of ongoing drug drop off sites at BerrienCounty.org.
