Six additional recall petitions have been filed against two members of the Lakeshore Public Schools Board of Education. The Berrien County Clerk’s office says the petitions are against board President Jason Beckrow and Trustee Rachel Wade, the same board members that were targeted in previous and now-rejected recall petitions. The Berrien County Election Commission rejected the previous petitions against the two last week. The new petitions are over school mask mandates, just like previous petitions, although the wording is different. Two other petitions say Beckrow and Wade should be recalled for being elected at a time when the school board’s bylaws said their terms should be four years. The terms are now six years. The Berrien County Election Commission will hold clarity hearings on the six new petitions on April 25. In the meantime, the commission will hold clarity hearings on recall petitions filed against school board members in St. Joseph, Watervliet, and Niles on April 12.
