Senator Aric Nesbitt’s personal and business tax cut passed by the state Senate is facing a possible veto by Governor Whitmer if it passes the House. The package would cut both to 3.9%, but she says it’s not sustainable. The Senate Fiscal Agency estimates the cuts would reduce tax collection by over $2.5-billion by the 2024 fiscal year. The cuts are due to a seven-billion-dollar budget surplus, but Whitmer and others say a lot of that money is one-time federal funding.
