1938 BBC TV aired television’s first science fiction program. A 35-minute adaptation of a play called R.U.R. short for Rossum’s Universal Robots, famous for introducing the word “robot” into the science fiction world. The story begins in a factory that makes robots from synthetic organic matter. While happy to work for humans at first, a robot rebellion leads to the extinction of the human race.
Music History:
1964 – The ‘Whisky a Go Go’ opened in West Hollywood, CA. The club would go on to be a launching pad for such acts as The Doors, Led Zeppelin and Johnny Rivers. It has been called the first American Discotheque.
