The United Way of Southwest Michigan has given away a two year lease on a car as part of its annual car challenge. Spokesperson Jennifer Tomshack tells WSJM News the challenge is possible thanks to support from Tyler Automotive. The winner was Adam Wilson of Niles Precision Company, who picked the winning key to start the car Tuesday.
“We were so excited to learn that he has been a donor to the United Way for the last 17 years,” Tomshack said. “So, we were very happy that somebody who has been supporting us for so long gets this incredible reward for incredible loyalty and commitment.”
Tomshack says supporters of the United Way who give $3 per week are entered into the car challenge, which can make a big difference over a year.
“That amount provides 34 meals for somebody who’s dealing with food insecurity, it provides two months of support to help a young child learn to read, it provides one free book for a child every month.”
United Way of Southwest Michigan President Anna Murphy was joined by Y Country’s Matt Malone for the giveaway, which was held remotely. Murphy did the honors of turning each key picked by the contestants.
