There are now two candidates in the running as Republicans for the new Michigan Senate District 17. Jonathan Lindsey has announced his candidacy, saying he is “committed to restarting the powerful engine of the Michigan economy, ending government overreach, securing our elections, and championing traditional conservative values.” He’s a Yale political science graduate who served in the special forces of the U.S. Army. He says he was born in and has lived most of his life in the district. Lindsey most recently worked in communications and government affairs. He’s running against state Senator Kim LaSata in the new district that covers the southern half of Berrien County and extends east to Cass, St. Joseph, and Branch counties. It also includes parts of Hillsdale County, Jackson County, and Calhoun County. Lindsey says to right the state’s economy and have a more limited government, voters must elect representatives who are not afraid of challenging the status quo.
