Do you plan to participate in Quitter’s Day? Research indicates January 19 is the day most Americans give up their New Year’s resolution. Carrie Krawiec is a licensed marriage and family therapist with Birmingham Maple Clinic. She offered Michigan News Network some tips to help keep New Year’s resolutions.
“It takes about three weeks to sufficiently make a habit,” Krawiec said. “The real problem with setting New Year’s goals is people make them too big and too vague. So, there is always a way to keep going, but it started with just choosing one specific behavior.”
To keep your resolution rolling, Krawiec suggests breaking it down into a much smaller, more attainable weekly goal that allows you to notice accomplishment. Therefore, it will encourage you to continue the resolution all year.
