1889 The first jukebox was installed, in the Palais Royale Saloon in San Francisco. It was an Edison phonograph modified with a coin slot and installed inside an oak cabinet.

1936 The first issue of Life magazine hit newsstands. It was the first all photographic news magazine and was in print until the year 2000.

1992 IBM debuted the first smart phone combining a mobile phone and PDA allowing the user to make and receive telephone calls, facsimiles, emails and pages. It also included a calendar, address book, notepad, maps, stocks, and news. It became publicly available 2 years later as the Simon Personal Communicator.

 

Music History:

1975 Queen started a nine-week run at No.1 on the UK singles chart with Bohemian Rhapsody. When the band wanted to release the single, various record executives suggested to them that, at 5 minutes and 55 seconds, it was too long and would never be a hit.
