A vote on whether or not to hold former President Trump’s White House chief of staff in contempt of Congress is on the mind of Congressman Fred Upton. The St. Joseph Republican appeared on CNN’s “State of the Union” and said what happens next depends on the January 6th committee in the House.

“We’ll see what the select committee does. They have to decide, they have to move it forward,” says Upton.

Upton voted in favor of contempt for former Trump adviser Steve Bannon.

“One of the reasons that I voted to hold Steve Bannon in contempt was he didn’t cooperate at all.”

Mark Meadows was Trump’s chief of staff when the insurrection happened on January 6th with thousands of people storming the U.S. Capitol as Congress was working to certify the November election. The rioters were intent on keeping Trump as President, despite his loss to Joe Biden.
