Congressman Fred Upton is hoping the full FDA approval granted to Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine will prompt more people to get themselves and those around them protected. Upton tells WSJM News he’s spoken with Pfizer leaders many times as the vaccine was developed.
“The trials involved more than 30,000 individuals and the data’s been considered for more than a year now at the FDA,” Upton said. “It got its emergency use authorization in early December of last year and it’s taken this long to get the [full approval]. It’s a good thing. It certainly takes away virtually any excuse not to get the vaccine.”
Michigan’s vaccination rate stands at 65.4% with at least one dose. Upton says with variants like Delta and the new Lambda variant, it’s imperative people get the shots. He says he’s proud the life-saving vaccine was developed right in his own district.
