The Niles Township Fire Department is receiving a federal grant of a little more than $109,000 to improve operations and safety for firefighters and personnel. Senators Debbie Stabenow and Gary Peters announced the funding from the Department of Homeland Security’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program. Stabenow says the resources will help give people the equipment needed to do their jobs safely and effectively, while Peters says in a statement the grant ensures Niles Township has additional resources needed. These competitive grants help first responders purchase the equipment and obtain the training needed to handle fire-related hazards.
