Health officials are saying the number COVID cases in Michigan has been rising for seven weeks in a row. Dr Sarah Lyon-Callo is the Director of the Bureau of Epidemiology and Population Health at the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, and says the numbers are becoming increasingly alarming.

“Positivity is now at 7.7% with some areas of the state at or near 10%,” Lyon-Callo said. “We are now at 100 cases per one million people, which is 600% more than we were when we were at our June 26 low. More than half of counties in the state are at the high transmission level, and most others are at substantial.”

Models are projecting a continued increase in hospitalizations and deaths over the next four to six weeks. Callo says the model is predicting hospitalizations and deaths similar to their levels last fall and winter.
