In an effort to reduce drunk and drugged driving as Labor Day approaches, police are working to get those drivers off the roads between now and September 6. Michigan Office of Highway Safety Planning spokesperson Dennis Raymo told Michigan News Network this week they’ve also seen a nearly 2% drop in seatbelt use.

“By having this enforcement campaign, we’re hoping to address some of these things, including seat belt use, speeding, and of course, impaired driving.”

Raymo says last Labor Day, there were more than 1,800 crashes and 15 people were killed. Of those fatal crashes, he says eight involved alcohol or drugs.
