Now well underway in Berrien Springs is the Berrien County Youth Fair. For this 75th fair, Manager Karen Klug tells #WSJM News vendors are wearing special t shirts and they opened a time capsule from the 50th anniversary. She’s glad the fair is back on after being knocked out by COVID last year.

“It’s just great to see everybody back and get a taste of that fair food again and take a look at our commercial exhibits,” Klug said. “The biggest thing is to watch the kids show their animals or look at what they’ve exhibited, the home-ec, crafts, flowers, and horticulture.”

The rides are open and the food vendors are selling all the usual snacks like elephant ears and funnel cakes. However, Klug says it’s the youth exhibits that she loves.

“It’s just amazing to me to watch the kids do what they do and that they’re proud of their exhibits, whether it’s cookies they’ve baked or a 1,000 pound steer that they’ve worked with for the past year.”

The mainstage event for Thursday is country singer Scotty McCreery, while Friday will be Demolition Derby night, and Saturday will feature Bullmania with rodeo events. Klug reminds those heading down to the fair from the north that M-139 has construction going on, and the route to take is US-31. You can find the fair schedule at its website.
