The Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the drowning death of a 57-year-old Paw Paw man. He was in Ackley Lake in Paw Paw Saturday afternoon and had been underwater about 10 minutes when people started to call 9-1-1. Deputies responded within minutes and coordinated search and rescue operations with First Responders arriving on scene. Despite a cohesive rescue effort among responding agencies, the 57-year-old male was unfortunately found dead, after being submerged underwater for over one hour. The sheriff’s office is not yet releasing his name to give the family time to make notifications. The drowning happened just before 2:30 p.m.
