1821 The first Issue of The Saturday Evening Post was published.

1916 The U.S. signed the treaty to purchase the Virgin Islands from Denmark for $25,000,000 in gold. The U.S. Virgin Islands are the only place in the U.S. where traffic drives on the left.

2006 A hot dog measuring 197 ft. was made by the Shizuoka Meat Producers of Shizuoka, Japan and the All-Japan Bread Association. It holds the Guinness record to this date.
