Set for August 6 through August 8 is Chalk the Block in downtown St. Joseph. St. Joe Today’s Amy Zapal tells WSJM News artists come from all over the draw chalk art on Broad Street. Judges will pick their favorites, and there’s also a People’s Choice Award. You can buy a vote for $1.

“They just draw right on the ground,” Zapal said. “There are some who will do 3D pieces for us, there are some who do 2D pieces. They’re amazing, and each is different and each artist has their own style, which is interesting to see.”

Zapal says it’s always impressive to see what the artists come up with. She remembers a 3D drawing of a mountain that people could stand by or lay on to make it look like they were mountain climbing. Those who head downtown to check out the art can also take in lighthouse tours offered by the Heritage Museum and Cultural Center, the St. Joseph Farmers Market on that Saturday, and a St. Joseph Municipal Band performance on that Sunday evening.
