A 57-year-old man from Illinois is facing charges after police say he was caught drunk boating on Friday night. The Van Buren County Sheriff’s Department says marine deputies were patrolling Gravel Lake in Porter Township around 9:15 p.m. when they came across the man in a small boat. They stopped him for operating a watercraft after sunset and suspected he’d been consuming alcohol. He declined a breathalyzer test. The man from Orland Park, Illinois was charged with operating a vessel while intoxicated, refusing a preliminary breath test, operating a PWC after sunset, and refusing a Data Master test. Police are waiting on the results of a blood draw to determine the man’s blood alcohol content. The man’s name has not been released.
