 1776 The Continental Congress votes to adopt a resolution of independence. It was of course adopted on July 4th.

1900 Count Ferdinand von Zeppelin flew his first airship. His ‘Zeppelins’ were used by Germany during World War I as bombers and scout ships. They also launched the air transport business.

1962 The future retail giant Walmart opened its first store in Rogers, Arkansas. The business was started by Sam Walton. Today Walmart has more than 4500 stores nationwide.

 

Music History:

Queen appeared at Surrey College, England. It was the group’s first gig with the line-up of Brian May, Roger Taylor, John Deacon and Freddy Mercury.
