A tornado may have touched down in south central Michigan near Coldwater last night. This possible touchdown occurred north to northwest of Coldwater in Branch County at about 10 pm Sunday, according to meteorologist Amos Dodson with the National Weather Service in northern Indiana.

“We have a possible tornado,” says Dodson. “We received two reports from trained spotters of a tornado in the Coldwater area. We have not been able to confirm a tornado actually occurred. We’re working with local emergency management to identify any areas of damage, but they have not found any yet.”

Dodson says there are no reports of injuries, but there were reports of a few trees down and more trees down in southern lower Michigan. There is a report that a tree fell on a house on Paw Paw Lake. Consumers Energy has more than 20,000 power outages, with most in Hillsdale and Branch counties.
