This Saturday brings the fourth annual Juneteenth celebration in Benton Harbor. The events will include a parade that starts at 1 p.m. It will go from the Riverview campus of Whirlpool up Main Street to Dwight P Michell City Center Park. Then the celebration continues at the park from 2 to 6 p.m. It will feature poetry readings, music, food and other vendors, and dance performances. Juneteenth is a celebration of the end of slavery in the United States when the last slaves in America learned they had been freed on June 19, 1865. They were in a remote area of Texas. Saturday’s Juneteenth celebration in Benton Harbor will also include the Berrien County Health Department on site at the park offering COVID-19 vaccinations.
