 1777 The flag of 13 stars and 13 stripes was adopted by the Second Continental Congress, replacing the Grand Union flag. It did not specify any particular arrangement, number of points, nor orientation for the stars, or whether the flag had to have seven red stripes and six white stripes or vice versa. Those choices were left up to the flag maker. Hence today is Flag Day.

1954 U.S. President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed into law the Congressional bill adding the words “under God” to the pledge of allegiance.

1976 The Gong Show debuted on NBC. It was created, produced, and hosted by Chuck Barris.

1945 English musician, singer, songwriter, composer, and record producer Rod Argent entered the earth. He was a member of The Zombies in the 60’s and went on to form the band Argent who had the 1972 Top a5 single ‘Hold Your Head Up’.
