A Grand Rapids man is dead following a crash in Berrien County’s Hagar Township Wednesday morning. Michigan State Police say it happened at about 8:30 a.m. on northbound I-196 near mile marker five. Troopers learned the driver of a small Chevy truck had been southbound on I-196 when witnesses saw the vehicle slowly drift across the median. The vehicle then reentered the road directly into the path of northbound traffic and crashed into the driver’s side of a northbound Ford van. The 35-year-old Grand Rapids man driving the Chevy truck was taken to Memorial Hospital in South Bend, where he later died. His name has not been released. The driver of the van was 75-year-old Dean Slowik of Benton Harbor. He was not injured.
