Former Humane Society of Southwestern Michigan director Jill Svoboda wants changes to the board of directors after she quit in February. She spoke to our partners at WSBT-22 after the Berrien County Prosecutor determined she did nothing wrong.

“I would hope that this board would step down,” says Svoboda. “It’s not about politics. It never has been about politics and politics don’t belong in the animal world welfare realm”

Svoboda says she wants to inform other nonprofits that they can have the same problems if they’re not careful. The board accused her of stealing computers, which deputies found at the Humane Society. Accusations Svoboda used the computers illegally and spent money inappropriately were also found to be lies by the prosecutor.
