Police Respond To Fiery Crash On I-196

South Haven Area Emergency Services was among the agencies to respond to a fiery crash on I-196 Friday evening. SHAES released the following after 7 pm:
“Police and fire are on the scene of a crash involving a car and truck car-carrier on Interstate 196 near the 15 mile marker (three miles south of M-140 exit) in Covert Township of Van Buren County.
SHAES was dispatched at 5:50 p.m. to the northbound lane.
The car was pinned under the truck. Both were on fire. The truck was carrying a load of pickup trucks.
State police are investigating what appears to be a fatal.
Assisting SHAES at the scene was the Covert Township Fire Department.
MDOT closed the northbound lanes at the Covert exit, assisted by the Covert and South Haven police departments.”
