Some Berrien County Commissioners continue to have concerns about COVID restrictions on some businesses. Speaking during Thursday’s Berrien County Board of Commissioners meeting, Commissioner Ezra Scott raised questions about how the rules affect event venues. Chair Mac Elliott said it’s going to be difficult for things like wedding halls to plan when the state is on a roller coaster.

“How are you going to be able to accept a booking for a wedding in June or July if come the 20th of April, the rug can get yanked out from under you once again?”

Commissioner Teri Freehling suggested the board draft another letter or resolution asking for a regional approach to the rules and information on metrics. The board approved a resolution last week calling for restrictions on restaurants to be eased, something that happened this week. Also Thursday, the body heard some comments from members of the public unhappy with the continued administrative leave of Road Department Director Jason Latham. There was a protest outside of the county building over the issue Wednesday. Commissioners had no comment.
