Fourteen people have applied for one spot on the St. Joseph City Commission. Peggy Getty is resigning prior to the February 22nd meeting and the commission will hold a special meeting Thursday afternoon at 3:45 p.m. to select as many as four candidates to interview next week. Getty said when she ran for office, she completely stepped out of her comfort zone and encouraged all those who applied.

“It is worth it because there are a lot of people in the city staff, residents, business owners, fellow commissioners, who can help with the transition if you choose to do this,” says Getty. “I don’t want you to be intimidated.”

The last opening the commission filled in this manner was when City Commissioner Chris Huegel resigned because he left the city. Commissioner Lynn Todman was selected from a field of 11 applicants that year and has since been re-elected. Getty’s term is up in November and whoever is appointed will be able to run for the next term.
