The Berrien County Parks Department has found a way to make some souvenirs of its parks while recycling plastic. Environmental Property Manager Jill Adams tells WSJM News outdated Berrien County Parks Annual Entrance Passes are being repurposed as guitar picks. It was the idea of naturalists at Love Creek County Park

“We had a lot of left over county park passes, which are made out of rigid plastic, and they’re made of all different colors,” Adams said. “Each year the color changes. We’re always trying to find ways to reduce, reuse, and recycle and be more sustainable at the parks, and this was one waste items that the creative naturalists out there took those and made them into guitar picks.”

Adams says it was a relatively easy way to put those old passes to use without throwing them away. You can pick up a guitar pick at the nature center at Love Creek County Park in Berrien Springs for a donation of any amount. The center is open Wednesdays through Sundays. Adams recommends checking out the trails while you’re there.
