AAA is reminding everyone to be extra careful out on the road as the region faces another wintry blast. Spokesperson Adrienne Woodland tells WSJM News the most common mistakes drivers make in slick conditions are not clearing off their vehicles completely, thinking four wheel drive will help them stop faster, and going too fast.

“You always want to drive that matches the prevailing visibility, traffic, and road conditions, even if that means driving below the posted speed limit,” Woodland said.

Woodland says don’t use cruise control in precipitation and freezing temperatures, increase the distance between yourself and the vehicle in front of you, and be extra wary of ice on bridges, even if the rest of the road seems clear. AAA recommends keeping some supplies in your vehicle, including a phone charger, some water, jumper cables, a flashlight, flares, and kitty litter or sand. You can help out younger drivers by showing them AAA’s How to Go on Ice and Snow guide.
