The U.S. Attorney in Detroit has resigned. Matthew Schneider submitted his resignation to President Biden yesterday afternoon. His last day will be February 1st, and he’ll then join a private law firm based in Detroit. As he prepares to depart, Schneider says law enforcement continues to need to rebuild trust with the community.

“We can do better in law enforcement and we will do better in law enforcement,” says Schneider. “But I can also tell you that the very few police officers who commit crimes, they give everybody a bad name. So if we can clear out the bad apples, we’ll have a much better system in law enforcement moving toward.”

Saima Mohsein will become the first Muslim US Attorney in American history when she takes over for Schneider on February 1st.
