Some Berrien County Commissioners have received the COVID-19 vaccine, and during a Thursday meeting they shared their stories. In response to an inquiry from a member of the public regarding side effects, Chair Mac Elliott said he got his first jab and had arm soreness for the rest of the day. It was gone the next day. Commissioner Mamie Yarbrough had something similar.

“It was a bit of pain, but it wasn’t bad,” Yarbrough said. “It was mostly if you laid on it or if you touched it. I had no other things.”

Elliott had praise for the Berrien County Health Department’s management of the clinic he attended.

“It was really impressive, too, how well organized everything was,” Elliott said. “It was fluid, seamless movement. That doesn’t happen by accidents. There was a lot of planning. The coordination was simply top shelf.”

Elliott said people waited outside, some in their cars, until a staffer came and got them. They were brought inside, given the shot, and then placed in a waiting area for about 15 minutes just in case of a bad reaction. Elliott said he was proud of the health department’s coordination.
