Governor Whitmer is launching the Michigan COVID Recovery Plan to both help the economic recovery and end the pandemic. She says it has several areas of focus.
“One, protecting public health; two, getting our students back on track and three, jump starting our economy,” says Whitmer.
She says ending the pandemic is the best way to help the economy.
“That’s why a part of Michigan COVID Recovery Plan is to ramp up vaccine distribution so we can get more shots in arms so we can return to a strong economy and get back to normal as soon as possible,” adds Whitmer.
The governor’s plan provides $225 million for three new programs from the Michigan Economic Development Council. It draws $300 million from the School Aid Fund, $274 million from the General Fund, and the rest of the money is from the federal government.
There are parts of the plan that need the approval of the state Legislature.
