The Michigan Department of Transportation is inviting the public to submit names for its plows. MDOT spokesperson Nick Schirripa tells WSJM News Twitter users suggested the idea.

“They shared a picture of Traffic Scotland, a map they have there with their plows named,” Schrripa said. “They thought it was a fun idea, and we agreed.”

So Schirripa says MDOT asked people for plow names, and a whole lot have come in already.

“We have received more than 5,500 submissions in just under 48 hours. We are pretty confident that at some point we are going to be able to name all 340-something plows statewide.”

The names of the plows are displayed on MDOT’s MIDrive website, which is Michigan.gov/Drive. It lists construction information, road conditions, and now, the names of plows. Schirripa says some students at Fair Plain East Elementary in Benton Harbor have already named a few. The kids went with Tiger, Chill Bill, and Frosty. Other plow names include Snowbacca, Sir Salts-A-Lot, and yes, Plowy McPlowFace. Send in your own submissions at Michigan.gov/NameMISnowplow.
