Retailers across Michigan are optimistic for the new year with hopes for a rebound after sales slumped during the pandemic. Jennifer Rook, with the Michigan Retailers Association, says optimism is indeed the theme for 2021.

“It seems like, based on a three month outlook which is an index of retail confidence, it’s looking like retailers are optimistic going into the new year,” Rook said. “It’s been a dismal year, no surprise there, but going into the next year, going into the next three months, going into the next year, we think that optimism is going to translate into higher sales across all industries.”

Rook predicts sales will increase in the New Year as more people receive the coronavirus vaccination and feel more comfortable shopping in person.
