Berrien County received about $1.3 million in CARES Act funds this year. During a Thursday meeting of the Berrien County Board of Commissioners, Financial Services Director Doug James said most of those dollars have been spent.

“What is in here, for the most part, has to do with personal protection, equipment, whether it be masks, gowns, the shields, the wipes, the disinfectant, all of that stuff,” James said. “We have that in here. We also have personnel costs.”

County Administrator Brian Dissette said the county has mostly identified how all $1.3 million will be used. There is still about $39,000 unexpended, but uses have been identified for part of that. Commissioner Ezra Scott noted the county was fortunate to be able to pay for its COVID-related expenses.
