Legislation from state Senator Kim LaSata designed to fix an unintended consequence of Michigan’s tasting room legislation from last year is on its way to be signed by the governor. LaSata says the now finalized legislation would reform the law to allow wineries, breweries, and distilleries to operate both an on-premises tasting room and an off-premises tasting room at the same location, under certain conditions. Another bill sponsored by LaSata that was also finalized Wednesday would simplify the special event permitting process required to allow the Senior PGA to host its tournament in Benton Harbor. LaSata says state law currently must be amended every year there’s a Senior PGA event to allow a special event permit for the specific tournament. Her bill would allow a permit for any year, meaning a new bill wouldn’t need to be passed and signed each year the Senior PGA is played in the state. That legislation is also now headed to the governor.
